Foods that cause headache – Stop eating them frequently
Migraines may be caused by changes in the brain stem and its interactions with the trigeminal nerve. Those who suffer severe migraines can be very sensitive to certain foods, strong perfumes, and even strong light can affect their headache. They have not been eating a healthy meal plan. The weather changes and other environmental factors are also serious triggers for headaches. The following foods can be partial reasons of migraine and if you have ever experienced this terrible headache, you better watch what you consume.
Cocoa can protect the nerve cells that cause migraine headaches, but almost one-third of the headaches can be caused by chocolate, which is identified as a headache trigger. Many people with migraines have increased appetite just before their headaches start and the sweet craving is much higher, so no wonder they reach for chocolate, but that is a poor choice. Stay away from the chocolate, or at least make a test and see how it would affect your headache.
Tyramine is a substance found naturally in some foods. It is formed from the breakdown of protein as foods age. The longer a high-protein food ages, the greater the tyramine content. The amount of tyramine in cheeses differ greatly due to the variations in processing, fermenting, aging, degradation, or even bacterial contamination.
Whenever you drink alcohol, the blood that flows in your brain increases. Red wine, beer, whiskey, and champagne are the most commonly identified headache triggers. Even though these may be your favorite drinks, just stay away from them.
4 Cold food
If you have been working out or you were outside on a hot day, it is very much possible that you can get a headache by consuming cold food. Pain, which is felt in the forehead, peaks 25 to 60 seconds and lasts from several seconds to one or two minutes.
Fast food such as hot dogs, deli meats, or pepperoni – all contain nitrites, which is another common trigger for migraines. Nitrites are used mostly as a preservative and are added to give the food better flavor as well as to keep the food last longer. Nitrites are also found in sausages (including chicken, turkey and soy sausages), beef and turkey, corned beef, or smoked, pickled, or canned food.
Tea, red apples or pears, apple juice and cider; they all contain tannins, plant compounds most notable for giving the foods that contain them, their astringent taste (that dry sensation in your mouth). Tannins seem to be a strong and consistent trigger for some individuals.
These are preservatives that can be found in most dried fruits (such as prunes, figs, and apricots), and many processed foods. Always check the label on the box/bottle in order to avoid the sulfates.
Many food additives are recognized as reason that cause migraines. Check labels carefully and avoid foods that contain monosodium glutamate (MSG), yeast extract, hydrolyzed or autolyzed yeast, hydrolyzed vegetable protein (HVP), hydrolyzed plant protein (HPP) and sodium caseinate.
9 Fruits and vegetables
Although considered to be healthy, even fruits and vegetables can be the reasons for a headache. If you get migraines often, you should be careful of the types of fruit you eat. Fruit triggers include raisins, papayas, plums, bananas, avocados, and figs. Bananas and avocados can be especially problematic for those with migraines. When icomes to vegetable triggers, be careful with string beans, snow peas, onions, and raw garlic. A number of beans have also been identified as possible triggers, including lima, navy, garbanzo, pinto, and pole beans.
Sourdough bread, freshly baked yeast bread, and coffee cake may be terrible for your migraine. Also, even pizza can be pretty problematic – any type of crackers or bread containing cheese may trigger migraines, including pizza.
Some people can’t function without their daily dose of caffeine, but it may cause you a headache too. If you really must, have only one or two cups of coffee a day. Some people find that suddenly stopping caffeine altogether can also be a trigger factor. Cut down your caffeine gradually.
