Common reasons of aging that people usually ignore
Skin aging is a natural part of getting older. There are mainly two culprits of skin aging – extrinsic and intrinsic agers. Extrinsic agers are external factors that cause skin aging such as sun exposure, unhealthy diet, stress, smoking, sleep, and lifestyle. Extrinsic agers can be controlled, whereas intrinsic agers are hard to control. Intrinsic agers refer to internal factors which lead to skin aging – namely our genetic programming and physiological decline.
There are several skin changes which are associated with the signs of aging such as loss of skin tone, wrinkles, drooping eyelids, altered pigmentation, and so on. Aging skin is part of growing old. However, there are also several people who experience accelerated skin aging. Skin aging is very easy to control if you have some knowledge about the signs of aging and its causes.
Read on to know the common causes why some people experience skin aging faster than normal.
1 Sun Exposure
Researchers have confirmed that excess sun exposure is responsible for 90% of photoaging such as brown spots, wrinkles, slack skin, and so on. The ultraviolet rays not only damage the skin but can also cause several skin diseases and can even lead to skin cancer.
The UV rays reach deep into the dermis and damage the collagen fibers and increase the production of metalloproteinase. This accelerates the rate of wrinkle formation.
Free radicals are one of the major causes of skin aging. One put of cigarette emits 40,000 free radicals. According to researchers, two types of free radicals are usually present in cigarette smoke; both reduce the amount of vitamin C in the body and accelerate the aging process.
3 Metalloproteinase enzymes
These enzymes reduce the production of collagen fibers, which is not good for the human body. If the production of collagen is reduced, it can lead the skin to have a problem with healing and make it appear wrinkly and saggy.
4 Repeating the same facial expression
Repetition of same facial expressions can also lead to the problem of aging skin. The reason behind this is that the skin eventually loses elasticity because it does not go back to its normal state.
5 Sleeping on the sides
Sleeping on the sides is also one of the reasons for aging skin. Sleeping on sides has the same effect as making repetitive facial expressions. Sleeping on sides for 6 to 8 hours can also reduce the elasticity of the skin.
