7 Bizarre psychological disorders which exist
You may have obviously heard of the more commonly known uncanny psychological disorders such as Schizophrenia, Multiple Personality Disorder or the Obsessive Compulsive Disorder. But chances of hearing some of the rarer psychological conditions below, are pretty bleak. Here are a few unusual psychological disorders bound to render you speechless.
1 The Mary Hart Syndrome
The ‘Entertainment Tonight’ co-host, Mary Hart, is bad news for a few people. There are reportedly a few astounding cases wherein people had seizure attacks on hearing Mary Hart’s voice. In 1991, on studying and observing one of the victims who claimed to have this syndrome, the doctor confirmed that the claim was true and the lady did get a seizure attack, which also included the victim holding her head, looking all baffled and distrait. But there is a side note, this syndrome occurs only in people who already suffer seizure attacks for other different reasons.
2 The Boanthropy Disorder
Perhaps the most eccentric of all, Boanthropy is a disorder which creates delusions in the mind of the victim and convinces him that he is in fact an ox or a cow. Some believe that the delusion usually develops with a dream and then infiltrates the mind which is awake and ultimately becomes an advanced delusion which renders the victim acting as if he were really a cow or an ox. The victim gets down on his fours and eats grass and goes about mooing.
3 The Autophagia Disorder
This is quite an unnerving disorder, literally. This condition instils a yearning in you to eat yourself or your own body parts which is frequently mere biting and then chewing imprudently. One such case saw a man starting off by biting his own fingernails. This landed up badly as he damaged his fingers. This disorder, like other disorders, can span from being rather trivial to being life threatening.
4 The Alien Hand Syndrome
This is pretty creepy because in this disorder, your arm possesses its own independent mind and behaves or responds of its own accord. It is nothing less than frustrating for the victim suffering from this syndrome. The victim’s arm moves around, grasps objects and also reacts to someone else’s touch; and all of this exclusive to the knowledge of the person suffering from it.
5 The Foreign Accent Syndrome
A critical injury to the brain can induce this disorder in a person. A brain injury such as a serious head trauma or a stroke can gravely affect a person. The Foreign Accent Syndrome victim suddenly finds a new accent for his speech which is totally atypical of where he originally came from. As an illustration, consider a Brit who, after developing FAS, suddenly starts speaking with a Russian accent, so convincing that he even makes grammatical errors in his native language.
6 The Todd/ Alice in Wonderland Syndrome
This particular syndrome is said to be temporary and can be caused by several migraines, hallucinogens and brain tumors and mostly seen at the commencement of the Epstein-Barr virus. The syndrome gets its name after the popular Lewis Caroll book and owing to this disorder, the victim conceives surrounding objects much smaller or larger in size than how big they really are, which makes it pretty hard to get a hold of themselves.
7 The Trichotillomania Disorder
This is quite a painful disorder considering that the one suffering from this disorder usually has an intense craving of pulling out his own hair. And the hair can be from anywhere on the body and not necessarily just from the scalp. As if that wasn’t bad enough, some people suffering from it also consume what they pull out, which causes problems in their intestines later on.
