5 natural ways to get rid of blackheads at home

Blackheads are second on the list of most annoying conditions that affect your face after acne. They are caused due to the excess release of sebum (oil created by the sebaceous glands that keeps skin supple) and it clogging the pores along with dead skin cells.

Blackheads are not caused by dirt, so scrubbing the skin off your face is not going to help you removing those blackheads. Blackheads are caused when the mixture of sebum and dead skin cells oxidises on an open pore, when it comes in contact with oxygen and turns black.

There are some remedies that you can try at home to try and get rid of blackheads, but do remember, some of the remedies may make your skin dry and it will produce more oil to smoothen it and in turn more blackheads will form. So use each of the remedies mentioned here not more than 2-3 times a week.

1 Egg white mask

Egg Whites are very useful to form a temporary mask in order to tighten the pores on your face and reducing the chances of blackheads forming. As egg whites area also high in proteins nutrients, they will also prevent your skin from drying.

Apply the separated egg white in a thin layer on your face. Then place a clean towel or face tissue over the mask and gently press it onto your face. Now carefully apply a second layer on the tissue paper itself, after the first layer dries. When this mask dries, your face will feel like tightening and it is supposed to happen.

Now remove the mask and wash your face with water and pat and dry. Now apply some moisturiser as usual.

2 Honey and Milk Pore Strips

The lactic acid in milk keeps the skin soft and shiny. Honey on the other hand has antibacterial properties. Mix these two together and you have perfect face mask for yourself.

Take 1 tablespoon of organic honey and mix it with 1 teaspoon of milk. Heat this solution for 5-10 minutes in microwave and blend the mixture again thoroughly. When it cools down sufficiently, apply the mixture in a thin layer over the blackheads. Now pat a dry cotton strip over the layer of honey and milk and leave it to dry for at least 20 minutes.

Now remove the strip with peeling it away gently. Now rinse your face and apply moisturiser as usual.

3 Baking Soda & Water

Baking soda can be a great remedy in removing blackheads because it contains small granules that can be used to exfoliate and remove anything that is clogging the pores. But do not over do because the saltiness in the baking soda can dry your face quickly.

Mix water to baking soda to form a thick, spreadable paste. Massage the said paste on your face very gently, using circular motions of hands. After 1-2 minutes, rinse your face with clean water and pat to dry your face. Do not forget to apply moisturiser after the baking soda treatment.

4 Clay Time

Clay is the most natural that you can do, in order to remove blackheads. And you don’t have to buy any fancy clay for your use; just some cosmetic clay would do especially bentonite clay. It has minerals that tend to heal skin related ailments for centuries.

When you apply this clay on your face, the molecules in this clay gets electrically charge when mixed with water and it helps in drawing out any and all impurities that are stuck on the pores of the face. Also the face gets to absorb all the rich minerals form the clay.

Just mix a tablespoon of bentonite clay with water or apple cider vinegar, which is an excellent substitute for water. Apply this mask on the face till you feel it drying. This could take upto 20-30 minutes. Use lukewarm water to rinse off the mask and then moisturise you face adequately.

5 Take a clean toothbrush to remove black heads

This method is to be done when everything else fails in removing those pesky hard nosed blackheads. This can damage your face if not done with enough care.

Use a soft bristle toothbrush. Mix some lemon juice and some skin friendly oils like jojoba, neem and use a drop of the mixture on the toothbrush and gently, very gently scrub the area with blackheads with this brush.

Dip the head of toothbrush in hydrogen peroxide in between the scrubs to clean it. And do not under any circumstances use the same brush you use for brushing your teeth for this method. Keep replying the lemon and oil mixture in order to smooth the skin during the scrubbing. Do not go crazy with the scrubbing, do it gently and don’t apply pressure.
