We’re not talking about the unfortunate ship which drowned but the Kate Winslet and Leonardo DiCaprio-starrer film which went on to win 11 Academy Awards and garnered rave reviews along the way. You might think you know all there is to know about the film just because you have watched it multiple times. But in reality, there’s so much you don’t know about the iconic movie.
James Cameron’s Titanic was one of the most ambitious projects in the history of western cinema. Needless to say the makers left no stone unturned to make the movie and success. From recruiting the very best actors to testing out their dynamics to paying an exhaustive attention to detail they had to do it all. Here are some facts which we bet you didn’t know about the film.
We can’t imagine anybody else plating Jack and Rose except Kate Winslet and Leonardo DiCaprio. But during auditions, of course, several successful names from Hollywood tried their luck as they showed up to try out their luck for the lead of the film. From Christian Bale to Brad Pitt to Tom Cruise everyone wanted to play Jack Dawson.
2How did Kate get the role?
You’d think someone as talented as Kate Winslet was the first choice to play Rose. But that was not at all the case. Some of the leading female names from the 90s from Uma Thurman to Nicole Kidman and even the pop legend Madonna wanted to play Rose. But rumour has it that Kate desperately wanted the role and had called James Cameron several times.
3This is insane
Do you know that the budget for the film was so high that it was a lot more than what it took to build the actual ship? The ship was made with $7.5 million whereas the film took $200 million to make. And it kind of makes sense Titanic was after all the most well-researched movie ever made in Hollywood.
4A different way
According to the original script Rose was supposed to stand her rich fiance with her heels during a confrontation. But Kate suggested it would be more intense and would draw a better reaction from the audience If she spits on him. Eventually, James agreed and she ends up spitting.
5Is this a coincidence?
If you edit out all the scenes from the movie which take place in the present, in modern day America, and only watch the flashback part, you will see the movie runs for 2 hours and 40 minutes. According to reports that is the exact time the Titanic ship took to completely sink. You might call it a coincidence but it is all too a bit spooky.
