15 Of The Incredible Winning Photos From The GDT Nature Photographer Of The Year 2020
According to the German Society for Nature Photography, voting was not carried at the annual general meeting due to the coronavirus pandemic. But, for the first time ever in GDT’s history, it was completed online with huge support and participation by its members. The GDT members took their turn to make their choices from 10 images in each of the seven categories after the pre-jury procedure. There were 7 categories in which photographers competed- Mammals, Plants and Fungi, Other Animals, Nature’s Studio, Landscapes, and a special category: Water. Here are the winning clicks of the contest, and these shots are absolutely amazing.
1 “A Hare’s Dream” by Peter Lindel-Overall Winner
Peter Lindel from Dortmund, Germany with his photo of a European hare received the overall winner award- an Olympus OM-D E-M1 III 12-40mm kit from the organization’s premium partner, Olympus Europe.
Lindel is passionate about photography and focuses on local and African fauna. The winning image was from a series taken in the north of Dortmund. GDT explained: “Compared to many international nature photography hotspots, this region has little to offer…(But) Peter Lindel (invested) a lot of time and blood, sweat, and tears working on this project on his doorstep. In these times, as everyone is urged to stay home, the generally classic subject of a hare gains special significance. It is also a beautiful statement for long-term exploration of a single species and region”.
