David Boreanaz is a well-known TV actor known for shows like Buffy the vampire slayer, Angel and on-going Bones had released a statement to People magazine in 2010 admitting on being unfaithful to his wife.

He told People, “I felt as though I was being blackmailed or there was some sort of extortion,” so he decided to tell the truth himself instead of paying her off.

2 Bill Cosby

Bill Cosby is a famous comedian known for his sitcom The Bill Cosby show in the 1970s-80s. In 1998, a woman named Autumn Jackson went to Cosby claiming to be his illegitimate daughter and the produce of sexual assault.

She blackmailed Cosby to pay her $40 million or she will go to the press with her story. Cosby was giving Jackson money for her education and also to keep his affair with her mother a secret, he declined to give her the $40 million as she asked. In fact, his lawyers went to the FBI and they arrested Jackson who was sentenced to 26 months in prison.

3 Oprah Winfrey

Oprah Winfrey is a known name famous for her talk show Oprah. In 2006, a man named Keifer Bonvillain “threatened to expose tape recordings of conversations that he claimed reveal behind-the-scenes shenanigans at Winfrey’s production company.”

He did so by befriending one of Winfrey’s personnel and taped and recorded hours and hours of conversation which he had planned to use in the tell all book he was writing by the name of “Ruthless”. Bonvillian was arrested for extortion, but the charges were dropped. Later he sued Oprah for $180 million for wrongful accusation.

4 John Stamos

In 2009, actor John Stamos was contacted by two people who were later identified as Allison Cross and Scott Sippola. They duo tried to extort money from him by telling him that they had some photos of him partying that could really harm his reputation. They blackmailed him for $680,000 in order to never make the images public.
Stamos’ lawyers then asked for the help of FBI who later arrested the blackmailing duo by setting a trap in which a FBI agent posed as a representative of Stamos and became ready to give them money.

5 Cindy Crawford

In 2009, supermodel Cindy Crawford and her husband were blackmailed for $100,000 by a male model by the name of Edis Kayalar. Kayalar showed them a photo of their 7 year old daughter being bound and gagged to a chair.

The photo was actually taken by their nanny who was playing a game of cops and robber. Kayalar got $1,000 from Crawford’s husband in order to keep the photo private. But when he demanded more money, the couple went to police.

6 David Letterman

Late night talk show host David Letterman announced on the air that someone was threating to reveal his affairs with several female employees if Letterman didn’t pay him.

A producer for CBS, the network on which Letterman’s show aired Joe Halderman was caught trying to cash a bogus cheque of $2 million given to him by the lawyer of Letterman. Halderman was caught and pleaded guilty to tried grand larceny in the second degree and was condemned to 6 months in jail, 5 years of probation and 1000 hours of community service.

7 John Travolta

John Travolta and Kelly Preston’s 16 year old son Jett who was autistic died in 2006. The 46 year old ambulance driver Tarino Lightbourne who arrived at the location attempted to blackmail Travolta by accusing him of killing his son and demanded $25 million or he would take his information to the press.

Lightbourne was trying to use a “refusal to transport” form as evidence that Travolta caused his son’s death. But in reality, there would have been no reason because Jett was so ill that he had to be taken to the hospital no matter what.

8 Cameron Diaz

Cameron Diaz was blackmailed by photographer John Rutter, who threatened to release her topless photos taken when she was 21 years old. He supposedly counterfeited Diaz’s signature on a release form that would allow him to use the photos how he chose.

He held onto the photos and waited for Diaz to become famous. He offered Diaz an opportunity to buy the photos before he tried to sell them to anyone else. The court on the other hand refused to see it that way. In the end, Rutter was found guilty of attempted grand theft, forgery, and perjury and faced up to 6 years in prison.
