#1. Beyoncé

This woman needs no introduction. Her self-titled fifth album hit the shelves at the end of December last year and has been storming ever since. Powerful. Poetic. It shows a more intimate side of the artist we all know and love. Not to mention she deserves kudos for telling no one she was even making the album, and so soon after giving birth, too. She truly is fierce, and this album proves she’s got plenty more talent to give to the world.

#2. Passenger

Definitely one of the top acts of 2014, this one-man band has been on the radio non-stop with his hit song, “Let Her Go.” Originally a band formed in 2009, Michael Rosenberg decided to keep the name when he went solo. His soothing guitar rhythms and quality backings will make you play on repeat, and his lyrics are like poetry. He’s been touring heavily across the British Isles and is certainly on to keep your eyes on.

#3. Ed Sheeran

He came on the scene in 2011 and hasn’t stopped rising ever since. His waxing lyrics and soulful voice, not to mention his red hair, make him stand out. A masterful guitar player, he can captivate thousand with nothing but six strings and that voice. His second album “x” was released this year and the debut song, “Sing” has been on air since April. He also wrote and composed a song for the end of the second Hobbit movie, which is incredibly moving. Expect an awful lot more from this guy in years to come.

#4. Hozier

Brand new on the scene, this Irishman blew the world away with his amazing hit single, “Take me to Church.” He has an album forthcoming, and is certainly one to watch. His vocals are astounding and his skills on the guitar are unrivalled. Although he hasn’t got a massive body of work, this guy is certainly one of the best out there right now and is sure to be on your radio for the next few years.

#5. Lorde

What list is complete without Lorde? Bursting onto the scene last year with “Royals” she’s gone from strength to strength ever since. Originally from New Zealand, she’s been touring around the world showing off her skills while her debut album “Pure Heroine” hits the charts. Her cover of the Tears for Fears song, “Everybody Wants to Rule the World” was used in the Hunger Games’ soundtrack, and you can be sure it won’t be the last time her songs feature on film.
