Sylvester Stallone’s life story drives home the importance of following your dreams
When one talks about celebrities, imagination works overtime to produce vivid images of them living in palatial mansions stacked with cash and other luxuries. What most people very conveniently fail to acknowledge, is the struggle behind the current success. Most celebrities were quite badly off before the big break that changed their lives. One such loved celebrity is Sylvester Stallone.
1 Stallone’s Early Days Were Full Of Struggle
Financial Issues Got The Better of Him:
Stallone was quite badly off back then with having no money to feed his family and dog. Once he had stolen his wife’s jewelry to pay for his expenses. He ended up broke and homeless which is when he sold his dog at a liquor store to some stranger for $25 only and walked away crying.
2 His Inspiration Came While Watching a Boxing Match
Two weeks after selling his dog, Stallone watched a boxing match between Mohammed Ali and Chuck Wepner. It was while watching this match that Stallone found his inspiration to pen the script of the famous movie Rocky! It is said that he wrote the script straight for 20 hours. When he tried to sell the script, he was made an offer of $125,000 but his main wish was to star in the movie. He wanted to play the lead role of Rocky, which the makers rejected as they wanted a big star.
3 The Big Break That changed His Life
The makers had found him funny to look at and talk to and had rejected him on these grounds. A few weeks later, the same makers offered him $250,000 for the script which he refused. They went up to $350,000 only to be refused. Finally, the makers had to relent and agreed to pay $35,000 for the script and allowed him to star in the movie. Needless to say, the movie went on to win a cool couple of awards at the Oscars that year. He won the best actor award as well.
4 Stallone Bought Back his Dog after His Big Break
Did you know, that the first thing he did after his big break was to buy back his dog from the stranger? He stood at the liquor shop for three consecutive days before he spotted the man with his dog at the store. Despite making him understand the dog’s importance in his life, the man refused to sell the dog to Stallone. Finally, the guy settled for $15,000 to part with the dog.
The bottomline of this inspirational account is that, you should go all out to achieve your dreams come what may. Nothing and no one should come in the way of your success. Do not be afraid of struggle, for good times may just be round the corner. Stallone says that if he could do it, anyone can.
