After five decades and about 200 films to his credit, action movie star Jackie Chan wins an Oscar. He is finally getting the credit he deserves. Jackie Chan received an honorary Oscar for his lifetime extraordinary achievements in Film.
It is high time the little master and star of such hits like ‘Rumble in The Bronx’ and ‘Rush hour’ that Jackie will truly be a star remembered in the Oscar’s hall of fame.
1 Finally acknowledged for his mammoth contribution to cinema
The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences have voted for Jackie Chan along with British editor Anne Coates, casting director Lynn Stalmaster and documentary maker Fredrick Wiseman who were described by Academy president as ‘true pioneers and legends in their crafts”. The four were honored at the Academy’s Governors Awards on 12th November.
2 Introduced by Chris Tucker, Michelle Yeoh and Tom Hanks
At the grand gala of the Governors awards, Jackie was introduced by rush hour co star Chris Tucker, Michelle Yeoh and Tom Hanks. Hanks referred to him as Jackie ‘Chantastic’ Chan. Jackie praised Hong Kong which he said made him proud to be Chinese and thanked his fans.”I continue to make movies, jumping through windows, kicking and punching, breaking my bones.” Tom Hanks further elaborated that it was gratifying that Chan’s work was finally acknowledged as his genre of martial arts and comedy were always overlooked by the awards.
The grand event followed by a gala dinner was attended by celebrities like Nicole Kidman, Denzil Washington, Amy
Adams and Dev Patel.

Jackie Chan now 62 has acted, produced and directed in several movies till date. He has starred in dozens of martial arts and kung fu films made in Hong Kong like Armor of God, Police Story and The Myth. Jackie had huge success in Hollywood when he first starred in action comedies like Cannon ball run. He became famous for movies like Rush Hour with Chris Tucker and Rumble in the Bronx.
