15 Hollywood Actors Who Regretted Turning Down Major Film Roles
There have been many times when an actor turned down a role as they felt it to be either too small or they did not understand the script. Hollywood has no shortage of roles if you are an acclaimed actor but sometimes the roles they refused went on to become iconic and the actors who turned it down later regretted making that decision.
Here are some really popular actors who turned down roles in incredible movies only to later regret making that decision.
1Kate Winslet in ‘The Favourite’
‘The Favourite’ is a 2018 period black comedy movie starring Olivia Colman, Emma Stone, and Rachel Weisz. But, did you know that actress Kate Winslet was the first choice for the role Rachel played? Unfortunately, she turned down the role for Woody Allen’s ‘Wonder Wheel’. ‘The Favourite’ went on to be one of the best movies of 2018 with several nominations at the Oscars.
2Emma Stone in ‘Little Women’
The 2019 coming-of-age period drama film is an adaptation of the 1868 novel of the same name by Louisa May Alcott. It starred Saoirse Ronan, Emma Watson, Florence Pugh, Eliza Scanlen, etc. But, the role Emma Watson played was also given to Emma Stone. But, when filming was about to start Emma had to travel to promote ‘The Favourite’ which clashed with her filming dates so she left the project.
3Katee Sackhoff in ‘The Hateful Eight’
It is a known fact that when Tarantino writes characters he already has an actor in mind to play it. The same was for the character of ‘Daisy Domergue’ in his 2015 movie ‘The Hateful Eight’. He wanted Katee Sackhoff to play the part but after a few test scenes, they found her to be too young for the role. Jennifer Jason Leigh was given the part and she even got nominated for a Golden Globe and an Oscar for her performance.
4Aaron Taylor-Johnson in ‘Kingsman: The Secret Service’
When talking about recent good action movies the ‘Kingsman’ series always comes up. The action spy comedy film starred Taron Egerton and Colin Firth in the lead roles. But, actor Aaron Taylor-Johnson was the first choice for Gary “Eggsy” Unwin. He, unfortunately, was too busy with his ‘Godzilla’ project and couldn’t make time for both movies.
5Sean Penn in ‘The Revenant’
Before the movie began filming the lead roles of 2015’s ‘The Revenant’ were supposed to be Leonardo DiCaprio and Sean Penn. Sean Penn was already in talks with the director for the role but had to pull out during the last minute as he had other obligations. Leo called up Tom Hardy and had the script sent over and he took up the role.
