Although you should never attempt to lose weight too fast within a very short period of time, Amir Khan the Bollywood actor on the other hand has achieved the impossible. As one of the fewer actors in Bollywood who believes in being absolutely realistic in a role, Amir Khan has earned the nickname of being Mr. Perfectionist of Hindi Cinema.

In his latest venture the sports drama “Dangal” Amir was required to gain 25 kg as the protagonist of the film Mahavir Phogat. You can watch him in the video pot belly and all. But then came Aamir Khan’s transformation.

1 Aamir shed weight in just 6 months

Within 6 months Amir was required to shed weight and hone his body into that brutal toned athletic look and he actually achieved it by abiding to a strict diet and exercise plan that is neither for beginners in bodybuilding nor for the faint hearted.

A word of advice though by Amir himself. In his own words “I would like to mention that putting on weight and losing it so fast is very unhealthy. I did it for my film under the supervision of experts, but it is very unhealthy for any regular person.” However to achieve the superb transformation is no less inspiring and abiding by the basic protocols of Amir’s routine will keep anyone fit as a fiddle.

2 Aamir’s take on fitness

On Amir’s own blog which he shares tips about his body transformation in 2010, Amir said that there are three important elements to a healthy lifestyle. These are a healthy and balanced diet, exercise and rest. According to Amir, a balanced diet should consist of 1/3 fat 1/3 carbs and 1/3 protein. “Importantly, eating less is not a healthy balanced diet”, says Aamir Khan. When you starve yourself your body ends up storing more fat.

When losing weight is concerned, you need to consult a qualified and experienced dietician. During his film Ghajni, Amir ate whole eggs for breakfast, green veggies and meat as well as snacking on nuts. He would also drink a protein shake before a workout. Rest is important where Amir slept for 8 hours each night. He is seen here getting some tips from bronze medallist Sushil Kumar.

3 Aamir Khan’s Fitness Plan

For his character Mahavir Phogat in Dangal, Amior has gone vegetarian as his character is a vegetarian too. For Dangal. Amir says increasing his weight was fun as he ate and drank whatever he could. But he also said that it was uncomfortable because gaining weight affects breathing and slows down your movement.

Director Nitesh Tewari also gave Aamir the option of wearing a bodysuit which he declined. He chose to increase his weight by 28 kg and then lose it again. He went from fat to fit where Amir Khan’s transformation in such a short time was indeed a remarkable feat for the actor considering he is now fifty. Amir’s diet was supervised by Doctor Vinod Dhurander who ensured Aamir consumed a diet of 1800 to 2500 calories. Aamir added, “Diet is number 1 in changing your body. It doesn’t matter how much you exercise – if your diet isn’t right, the results won’t show”.
