20 Actors Who Could Have Had Roles in Your Favorite Films Until Life Intervened and chose Someone Else
Matthew McConaughey once said that couldn’t act in the “Titanic”, after he had read its script, as he considered it to be a boring film that was destined for failure. Now, Titanic is an all-time favorite and McConaughey might just be regretting his decision ever since. There are plenty of other actors who can relate to Matthew, who could have starred in many films that would have really made them much more famous and popular if they hadn’t refused the role. Here are some mentions of those actors who came close to signing contracts that would have made them star in some of our favorite cult movies:
1Miles Teller and Emma Watson as Sebastian and Mia in La La Land
The musical that achieved 6 Oscars, 7 Golden Globes, and 5 victories at the BAFTA Film Awards, La La Land featured Ryan Gosling and Emma Stone. As it turns out before Emma Stone and Ryan Gosling were offered these roles, it was Emma Watson and Miles Teller who were offered the roles of Mia and Sebastian. However, Watson was too wrapped up with “Beauty and the Beast” considering it a far more important project. Teller wanted $6 million, instead of the $4 million that was offered to him.
2Macaulay Culkin as Jack in Titanic
If Macaulay Culkin starred as Jack in Titanic, it would’ve been hard to imagine his career. While film producers were willing to grant the role of the main hero to him, James Cameron seemed to oppose it strongly, as he was in favor of casting Leonardo DiCaprio. There were also many other actors who were in line for the role of Jack such as Matthew McConaughey, Brad Pitt, Christian Bale, and Johnny Depp. But, it was Leo who eventually starred in the film.
3Molly Ringwald as Vivian Ward in Pretty Woman
Believe it or not, the Disney Company initially was against starring Julia Roberts as the main character Vivian in Pretty Woman, and offered the role to Molly Ringwald. However, Ringwald turned down this offer as she didn’t want to play the role of a prostitute. After the Pretty Woman Premiere, Ringwald stated in an interview, that she had come to regret her decision.
4David Schwimmer as Jay in Men in Black
The role of Jay in the Men in Black movie was offered initially to David Schwimmer. But, since Schwimmer was busy with his own project- “Since You’ve Been Gone”, he didn’t accept the role. The role was then given to Will Smith. Since then, Schwimmer has had his good guy status cemented, despite his film failing.
5Pamela Anderson as Scully in the X-Files
Pamela Anderson supposedly was picked to play the role of the FBI investigator in The X-Files, but it was Gillian Anderson who eventually starred as paranormal Agent Scully. Gillian stated that in terms of what used to be on TV at the time Pamela was much more familiar to them. They were in search of someone who was taller, leggier and of course bustier, as they couldn’t picture how she and David could make it a success.
