‘Daredevil’ was Ben Affleck’s first plunge into superhero movies and it was a mistake. Fans did not receive t well and it impacted Affleck’s career too. The role of Matt Murdock was originally offered to Matt Damon. Damon turned down the movie because he was unfamiliar with director Mark Steven Johnson’s work.
It may be impossible to imagine anyone other than Chris Pratt playing the charming and hilarious Peter Quill aka Star-Lord but the role was offered to Joseph Gordon-Levitt before him. Apparently, the studio also considered Joel Edgerton and Eddie Redmayne. Pratt was hesitant about joining the MCU because he was out of shape but we are thankful he changed his mind.
Director Bryan Singer wanted Jude Law to play the Man of Steel in ‘Superman Returns’. He even wanted Law to try the suit on. Law struggled with the spandex and this convinced him he wasn’t right for the role. He further felt that an Englishman should not be playing Superman. Law saw himself with the suit on and did not quite like it. We were quite happy with Brandon Routh being chosen.
When ‘Iron Man 2’ was being cast in 2009, Emily Blunt was chosen to play Natasha Romanoff, aka Black Widow. However, she was contractually bound to Fox to do another movie and the schedule of ‘Gulliver’s Travels’ collided with ‘Iron Man’ and within six months she was replaced by Scarlett Johansson.
When Heath Ledger was cast as Joker, fans were not too happy. But he won an Oscar and made it one of the most historic performances of all time. But you would be surprised to know that the Joker was going to be Batman! Christopher Nolan first approached Ledger to convince him to play Batman. He turned it down because he was not interested to play a superhero. But then he was offered the role of the Joker in ‘Batman Begins’, Ledger signed without even reading the full script.
