14 Things That Pet Owners Do That Their Pets Hate
10Punishing your pet for something that it did a long time ago
Most animal aren’t geniuses, so if you come home and yell at them or physically punish them for something that they did hours ago, they won’t exactly understand what they did wrong. This makes the reason for your anger all the more incomprehensible to them. It will not cross their mind that you are angry because of what they did earlier and will only come to fear you instead of fixing their behavior. Rather than physically punishing them for it, just command them with a firm “no’” while pointing towards the thing they did.
11Getting another dog to try and fix your dog’s separation anxiety
If you notice that your dog tends to destroy things when you leave him/her alone at home, constantly follows you from room to room, or even has many accidents despite being house trained, it may be due to the fact that your dog has separation anxiety. This is most likely due to them having experienced some kind of traumatic event or drastic change in their lives. But it definitely is not because they are lonely. This behavior of your dog won’t get any better or fixed if you get another dog to keep him/her company while you are gone.
12Placing your cat’s litter box in an inconvenient place
Imagine if your bathroom or toilet was really far away and you were always locked out of it till someone with the keys came and unlocked it for you. This is exactly how your cat would feel if you keep their litter box somewhere inconvenient. These happen to be such things your pets hate as they prefer their litter boxes to be in places that are easily accessible.
13Giving your cat food that they hate
Many cat owners have a hard time figuring out the reason why their cats are such picky eaters. But the reason is pretty simple, because some cats prefer dry food to wet food and vice versa. They can even totally dislike certain brands, so if you give them things that they dislike eating, they obviously aren’t going to eat it.
14Trying to get your dog to communicate in the same way you do
This one simple fact is something that most pet owners often forget- you can’t expect your pet to understand you because they obviously can’t speak human language. Yelling at them in frustration and ignoring their body language cues will only confuse them more as they can tell that you are upset but can’t understand why. This will only put them on the defensive which they might show in the form of anxiety or aggression because they want to please you, but don’t know how to.
