When two dads in Pittsburgh took in six siblings, they had no idea how much their lives would change. The children came from a home where they were abused, so they lived in foster care for almost 5 years. Sadly, they had never known love, stability, or security, all of which they needed so much. Steve and Rob gave them a second chance and helped them change their lives through love.

Steve and Rob got the idea to adopt siblings from a TV show

Steve Anderson-McLean and Rob Anderson-McLean have been together for almost 20 years. Before getting married in Maryland in 2013, they had a promise ceremony in 2006. Even though Parker and Noah were all grown up and had moved out to live independently, their parents still felt like they weren’t yet done raising kids. Steve said that he and Rob got the idea to adopt siblings after seeing a TV show about a couple who did just that.

After looking at their photos, Steve and Rob decided to adopt all 6 siblings

In 2018, Steve and Rob learned that Carlos, 14, Guadalupe, 13, Maria, 12, Selena, 10, Nasa, 9, and Max, 7, needed to be adopted. When the siblings’ pictures were shown to them for the first time, the two dads knew they had to adopt them. The couple knew that the foster care system often separates siblings, which can cause long-term emotional damage. They didn’t want these kids to have to go through that. Lucky for them, the state also agreed that they should stay together.

The kids really loved their new parents

So, in July 2018, the two dads adopted all six foster children. After only a week, the kids asked their new parents if they could live with them forever. They were having a great time together when they went to the zoo, parks and played in the backyard. When they were in foster care, they had a chance to have this much fun. So, they appreciated everything they received and didn’t want it to end.

Steve and Rob were concerned about how the oldest sibling, Carlos, would react to having same-gender parents

Steve and Rob were initially worried about how Carlos, the oldest child, would react to having parents of the same gender. They thought he might have trouble adjusting because he already was a teenager. He didn’t seem bothered by it at all, and he fit right in with the family.

All six kids are just happy to have two loving dads who want to give them everything. The siblings always loved going to the trampoline park on Friday nights. But after being adopted, they love spending time together as a family more.
