5Make a DIY fruit fly trap.
The most important step here is to locate their breeding and nesting areas and, in the house, or gardens outside the house. Then you can trap them at their own home base by creating homemade concoctions which are usually lethal trap for them. These are apple cider vinegar, old beer or wine, fruit juices.
All you need to do is to take any one of those liquids and pour in to a glass and leave it open near the infested area. The flies will be drawn towards the sweetness of the liquid and they will dip in the liquid to feed and drown, in case beer, leave the bottle out in the open. The rest will be done by the narrow neck of the bottle which will effectively trap the flies in.
You can also use a bowl, pour in any liquid of choice and cover it with plastic wrap and secure it with a rubber band. Poke tiny holes on the plastic cover, which makes the fruit flies to enter the bowl but they cannot escape out.

Improper garbage disposal routine or dirty kitchen sink and the adjacent kitchen area can be the chief culprit for attracting fruit flies inside the house. It always recommended to use a proper garbage disposal cleaner or safe drain cleaner to clear all the trash from the sink and the pipes.

As long as fruit flies keep getting favourable environment for breeding and nesting the infestations will never end. A female fly can lay up to hundreds of eggs and single piece of rotten fruit can support the development of a colony of these pests. How to prevent fruit flies from breeding
Best is to remove the breeding sites all together. Just get rid of old possibly rotting vegetables and fruits and clean up the garbage bin thoroughly and dry it. Remove all the damp things from the kitchen like kitchen towels, cleaning mops etc. wash then regularly or change them if they are old. Keep all the food items either covered or sealed up in jars. This will cut off the breeding nests of the fruit flies and they would escape for good.
