According to Elijah Bond and his sister in law Helen who were the first investors sat on to decide the name for this game, the planchette automatically took over and spelled the word Ouija which means good luck.
2 Investors secured the patent by an eerie demonstration
Already the spirit board was gaining a lot of popularity especially in American households. Elijah and Helen decided to get their spooky board patented. The name of the patent officer was unknown to either of them and when they asked the Ouija board to spell it out, lo and behold! It did! This shocked the officer and the patent was granted in matter of minutes.
